We know that from their use at home comes a great part of our water and light bills of, so it would be great if we could know how to save using them. When we hear about energy saving, we must think that the concept also refers to our homes, to our small daily consumption, which multiplied by all users becomes a disproportionate consumption. In fact, about 36% of CO2 emissions are due to residential consumption, a percentage that could be lowered considerably if the idea of energy saving is taken into account. Reducing home consumption can help to reach our goal, helping us to save money.

The houses of our territory until recently were not efficient and were not considered  to be zero-impact, to date our government is adopting new forms of protection that will perhaps lead to an improvement of the condition of the air we breathe, thanks to new agreements with the Countries of the European Union.

The first step is to check if all the household appliances we have in our house are necessary. It happens to buy or to receive for present an appliance that we hold there on the kitchen counter always on and that we do not use, for example a food processor. But it also happens that for laziness we buy appliances that we could do without, for example why not make the juice simply squeezing an orange on the juicer instead of using electricity? We are often lazy but we should try to eliminate the superfluous and to use only what we really need. It is not easy to quit to use dear appliances but if you want to save you need to sacrifice yourself. There is a rule in minimalist philosophy, to take an item that we haven’t used for three months and ask ourselves if we would use it in the next three months. If not, then we can throw it away because it is superfluous.

FRIDGE: This appliance needs to remain on perpetually and above all it is part of the extremely necessary ones, especially when it is hot. So here we cannot just decide to unplug when no longer needed, but there is a way to save on the consumption of this appliance. which is to place the refrigerator in order to let it “breathe” and not crush it between the walls. Being too attached to the walls it will have to work twice to better cool the food inside. Also it would be better to avoid opening and closing the door continuously, so you will not have to work continuously to return to the right temperature. The fridge heats up immediately as soon as it is opened and therefore the energy to be produced is greater. Also the light inside that turns on and off consumes energy.

LAUNDRY MACHINE: The A+++ model is the one most suitable if we want a eco-friendly house. It is advisable to load it when the basket is full and washing the cloths always at low temperatures. Wash at 30 or even 40 degrees saves a lot per year compared to washes at 90 degrees; basically we would have a double saving.

Finally, it is useful to know that if we wash the cloths from 7 pm onwards the energy will cost less. The same tips can be used for the dishwasher.

ELECTRIC OVEN: Use the gas oven would be better, although less comfortable, and it would allow an immediate saving, but it is possible to bring down the consumption even with the oven, following some tips like to avoid opening the oven continuously during cooking, do not heat the oven too early, it takes 5-10 minutes, try to keep the resistance clean and finally turn off the appliance a few minutes before the supposed cooking time of the food. The oven is hot and what we have in the oven will continue to bake.

COMPUTER AND TV: Activating the standby mode is useful to reduce the consumption of a PC, even if they are now programmed for energy saving.

Disconnect the plug every time we stop using PC, printer, scanner, etc.

As for televisions nowadays technology has adapted them to energy saving and this already allows a great saving compared to old televisions. Try to disconnect the plug and check the standby mode is always better.

Following these little tips you can get to save about 10% on the consumption of household appliances, which however constitutes about 80% of our bills.

THIS ADVICE WILL ALLOW YOU TO SAVE ABOUT € 45,30 a YEAR.[3]
